Mythology : In Babylonian lore Draco is
associated with the dragon Tiamet who was conquered by the sun-god. In Greek
mythology, Draco was slain by Cadmus, the founder of the city Thebes. Athena told
Cadmus to plant the dragon's teeth, and from the ground rose an army to fight
alongside Cadmus. In another story, Draco guarded a tree bearing golden apples,
and was eventually killed by Hercules.

The star Thuban was the pole star 4,800 years ago, but has since moved away due to
precession. It is speculated that the ancient Egyptians used Thuban as a sighter
in building the great pyramids.
